Aja Haynes grew up in Antigua and now writes songs in the mountains of Kentucky. He makes music the way some people keep journals; as a necessary function of living, processing grief, displacement, and vulnerability through songwriting.
From a family of makers (seamstresses and tailors across generations) Haynes crafts songs, brooms, and sewed creations with equal care. Raised in a musical household exposed to calypso, folktales, and artists from Radiohead to Whitney Houston, he developed an alternative folk sound rooted in introspection and narrative.
His EP, Tortured Artist (December 20, 2025), features five originals and a Senora May cover, exploring the distance between island childhood and landlocked present. His silky high tenor translates what his steady exterior can't: the complexity of choosing sensitivity in a world that often denies it to young men.
A Bachelor of Music graduate and recent Master Musicians Festival performer, Haynes' music is for anyone caught between worlds, struggling to express feelings, and finding relief in shared solitude.
